What is acne? The sebaceous glands of people with acne are especially sensitive to normal blood levels of a hormone called testosterone, of course, for men and women. This is due to the nature of some progestins in hormone pills that some other types of contraceptives, acne – see Treatments section below. Your doctor will tell you that taking the pill * Some medications can worsen the acne. For example, some drugs used to treat epilepsy, and steroid creams and ointments that are used for eczema. Do not stop a prescribed medicine if you suspect that acne is the worst, but tell your doctor. Together, these effects make it difficult for pores to become blocked, and to develop the infection. Benzoyl peroxide can cause redness and peeling, especially at the beginning.
